Culture & Customs in South Tyrol

As rich as South Tyrol is in nature, as proud are its inhabitants of their culture, traditions and customs. The cultural heritage of the country is as large as it is impressive. The countless sights include some 115 museums, collections and exhibitions as well as 800 castles and palaces. Winegrowing and fruit-growing also have a long tradition in our homeland, and visitors can experience and learn about their history in a wide variety of places. If you are in the mood for Italian flair and Mediterranean "dolce far niente", you can reach Lake Garda or the romantic lagoon city of Venice in a short time.

Not only on rainy days do we recommend a sightseeing tour through the cultural landscape of South Tyrol. After all, the history of the country is such varied that you can learn something about it at practically every turn. There is a suitable museum for almost every topic. From modern art to historical finds to folkloric treasures: Museum enthusiasts will not get enough of the diversity.

Not far from Hotel Tyrol, in the Archaeology Museum in Bolzano, lies Ötzi, the Iceman. The Women's Museum in Merano tells 200 years of women's history and Reinhold Messner shows the diversity of the mountains in his "MessnerMountainMusseen". In the Passeier Valley, the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer is the focus of a museum and in the Touriseum in Trauttmansdorff Castle you can learn everything about the history of South Tyrolean tourism.
